Nia Classes
Classes recommence Jan 2025
I am currently walking (and dancing) the French Camino so will not be offering classes in Term 4 2024.
Please follow me on Facebook where I am sharing my journey.
Please sign up to my mailing list at the foot of the page to know when classes begin again.
Each Nia body of work is set to carefully chosen music that stimulates every part of your body to move. Part choreographed using a system of 52 simple moves inspired by the martial, healing, and dance arts, part free form. Nia invites you to step into a playful relationship with your body leaving you feeling more vital, alive, and emotionally balanced.
New starters are welcome at any time throughout the term. Arrive 10 minutes before class to register.
Wear comfy clothes, bring a water bottle, a small towel, and a yoga mat is optional.
This may be the first time you have heard of the movement practice called Nia. When trying something new it is normal to feel a little uncertain and even anxious or self-conscious. I know I do, which is why I offer the introductory 3-class pass for $30 to encourage you to try more than one class to see if Nia is for you.
I hope you will join me.

An Inspiring Nia Good News Story
Audrey, a delightful lady in her 80s, revealed she had some exciting news to share. Her bone density test results had increased for the first time in 10 years! She had been attending the gym regularly during this 10-year period, yet her results hadn’t improved. The only thing she is doing differently is attending Nia regularly. She rarely misses a Monday class.
On hearing Audrey’s news Kathy who is in her 70s and dances up to 4 Nia classes per week shared that she was also thrilled. Her latest bone density test showed a significant increase, despite the fact she is taking a medication that potentially has the side effect of lowering one’s bone density.
Classes overview
Nia International Training Faculty
When we do exercise/movement strictly for the physical benefits, we distance ourselves from our emotions and the human spirit. Essentially, we don’t bring our whole selves along with us. There is no way this can be satisfying, fun, or sustainable. In order for movement to feel good enough to last a lifetime, it must appeal to not only the body, but also to the emotions and soul.
Nia Philosophy
The Philosophy of Nia is about finding joy and pleasure in movement rather than getting it “right or wrong”.
It has been said, “If you can walk you can do Nia.”
What matters most is you have fun and move in your body’s way and adapt the moves and intensity to suit your body’s needs. Nia is adaptable to every age, body type, and level of fitness.
I appreciate that you are taking time out of your busy day, so it is my desire that you leave class feeling an enhanced sense of well-being, strength, and vitality.
It was fun, thanks. You have such a talent for bringing a room together Amanda and making people feel welcome. Although some of the women seemed unsure at the start, they all seemed to really enjoy it and had relaxed a lot by the end. Exactly how I felt on my first night too!

What a gift you gave us last night Amanda such a carefully and thoughtfully put together play list.
Your gift is always bringing joy to us at class but this one was a real powerhouse
Thank you ⭐️

I’m so glad I have been able to share some of your joyful dance this year. Getting on the dance floor is a key goal in my recovery and I’m incredibly thankful I was able to make it back.
Thank you for being so helpful and supportive. Your joy and enthusiasm is so infectious (in a good way!) I could briefly forget about my illness and find myself in the moment with the music. Such a blessing.
Janet
Thank you for sharing the Nia classes – they have been wonderful for my mental health and I have been really enjoying them. I think I have become a bit more free with my dancing since we’ve been zooming – hopefully I’ll bring this new freedom to our in-person classes.
